When does GTA 6 come out?

OFFICIAL

Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date is official.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have both used that calendar date in official materials, including the June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement.

The date was not the first window. Trailer 1 lived in a world where 2025 still sounded plausible. That window moved. A May 2026 window existed and then vacated. November 19 is the lock. When someone on a forum quotes an older month, they are quoting history, not the store page.

Digital unlock is expected at midnight local time on each storefront, which is how modern console launches usually behave, but the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store have the last word. Our unlock-times desk converts November 19, 00:00 in several zones and will be corrected if Sony or Microsoft post a specific hour.

Physical copies are a download code in a box, available from November 12 so the code can be redeemed in time to pre-load. Buying a box on November 12 does not let you play a week early. It lets you install. There is no disc to smuggle home and pop in at 9 p.m.

There is no official early-access SKU. Ultimate Edition is extra campaign content, not a time gate. Any listing that promises “play on November 12” is not an authorized Rockstar page. We will not match that lie in a headline, even if it would rank.

PC is not part of this date. Last-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not part of this date. If you only own those machines, November 19 is a stream night, not a play night. That is not an insult. It is the platform list.

We keep a live countdown in the status bar. It is math against November 19, 2026, 00:00 America/New_York (Leonida’s joke timezone). If Rockstar publishes a different unlock instant, the countdown changes and this FAQ gets a new paragraph with a timestamp.

Day-one patches, if they exist, usually land on top of a pre-load in the last hours. Leave the console on rest mode if your connection is fragile. Pre-load is not play. The campaign remains locked until November 19.

Regional street dates at brick-and-mortar shops can drift because there is no disc to hand over — only a code. The official play date does not drift with a truck. If a retailer “opens at midnight,” that is their event, not Rockstar’s unlock.

For a longer structured brief, read Everything we know. For the checklist, read the launch guide. For hour-by-hour conversion, read unlock times. This page exists so the search query gets a clean official sentence in the first line.

Search still surfaces 2025 recaps. Those pages are fossils. Share this URL, not a three-year-old thumbnail. The first sentence here is the date Rockstar and Take-Two printed.

If you are gifting the game, gift a store credit or a pre-order on an official storefront. Gift-card folklore and “I know a guy with discs” are how people get burned in a code-in-box generation.

Time zones: New Zealand sees the calendar day first in many console launches, but VI’s working model is midnight local unless a store says otherwise. Use the unlock-times table instead of a Discord screenshot.

This FAQ is a living page. The timestamp in Everything we know is the editorial pass. If the date moves, both pages move, and the countdown moves. We do not leave a zombie H1.
